Another Non-Solution Gets Bi-Partisan Support

You can probably tell that I'm feeling a bit grumpy this week about the world of politics and the complete vacuum of leadership when it comes to energy policy. My ire today is directed towards Congress and the Senate's 97-1 support of redirecting 70,000 barrels of oil a day to refineries rather than t.... This particular tidbit explains it:
Currently, about 70,000 barrels a day are pumped into the reserve from oil the government takes in lieu of royalty payments from firms operating in the Gulf. That represents about 0.3% of the nation's 20 million barrel-a-day oil habit.
We have an historic opportunity to begin seriously weening ourselves off of oil dependency and develop solutions that can drop the cost of moving from A to B by dollars, not cents per gallon. Instead, Congress is putting a bandaid on a broken leg and is certainly going to boast one for the little guy. Of course, most people reading this blog know this. This country needs a major education initiative that results in them demanding loudly that they want real alternatives in how our cars and trucks are powered.
