Breaking news of out San Francisco!!!
An 810-foot-long container ship decided to try to take on the Bay B...! The container ship thought it would have an advantage -- sneaking up on the Bay Bridge through a dense fog. Alas, 65,131-ton
Cosco Busan didn't stand a chance (the Bridge reminded me of Tyson in his early years). 65,000 tons couldn't muster the necessary stamina, reach, or power to take on the marvel of modern engineering. And today, the
Busan stands to need quite a few stitches before it's able to embark on its next journey.
Check out images of the ship, and the damage inflicted by the bridge.
SIDE NOTE: In a rather under-handed and unsportsmanlike maneuver,
Busan got the final evil laugh by leaking (SPILLING) 58,000 gallons of bunker fuel into the Bay!
How underhanded can one get!?!?
There is no place for bunker fuel, or this kind of underhandedness, in the sporting arena. We need to clamor for authorities (CARB, EPA, the Ports, the Governor) to take control of this blood sport and lay down some ground rules and regulations -- with everyone's safety and health in mind. If not, more people are liable to get hurt (port community members like you and me).
